Artist's Description
Tyneham Village Church 3 by Roy Pedersen. www.roypedersenphotography.com The church in Tyneham village is called St. Mary's. Although the village is deserted the church is still in use. Tyneham village is located in the Isle of Purpeck near Lulworth in Dorset,UK. During WW2 in November 1943 notice was given to the villagers that they would be required to leave within 28 days as the area was needed for forces training for the invasion.
On 17 December 1943 the last villagers left .They all believed that one day they would be able to return. Sadly this was never to happen.
Today, the village is still part of the Lulworth Army Ranges but access is allowed most weekends and all public holidays.
