Whitby Abbey is a ruined Benedictine abbey overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire, England. Whitby Abbey became famous in 1897 when Bram Stoker wrote his novel Dracula. It was in Whitby that Dracula came ashore as a creature resembling a large dog and climbed the 199 steps which lead up to the ruins. With kind permission from Laura Richards
