They are not actually mute but tend to be less vocal than other Swans due to the anatomy of their trachea. There are seven species of Swans; Black Swan (Cygnus atratus), Black-Necked Swan (Cygnus melancoryphus), Coscoroba Swan (Coscoroba coscoroba), Mute Swan (Cygnus olor), Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator),
Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus) and the Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus).The Mute Swan is a member of the waterfowl family Anatidae. The Mute Swan is native to much of Europe and Asia, and the far north of Africa.
