The Hawthorne is also known as the quickthorn, thornapple, May-tree, whitethorn, or hawberry.
It is the only British plant named after the month in which it blooms.
It is native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere in Europe, Asia and North America. There is a saying in the UK 'Ne'er cast a clout till May be out'.
